Calvary Chapel’s Junior High fellowship provides a positive peer group for the discussion and application of God’s Word. We believe that attacks upon the Biblical worldview increase dramatically in Junior High School, so we seek to get the group grounded in God’s inspired Word. As we study the Bible verse-by-verse we apply scripture to contemporary 21st century life. We also gather for activities like swim parties, broomball, and we recently solved a murder mystery – and then discussed putting those same detective skills into practice by investigating the Bible.
” He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.” –Proverbs 13:20
We meet Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. Typical topics discussed include Creation vs. Evolution, Peer Pressure, differing worldviews, and what doctrines are “Essentials” vs. “non-essential”. Discussions abound as we discuss how believers should deal with the challenges of today’s junior high schools and the world.
Meeting Schedule
Sunday Mornings
During the school year 2010-2011, we are going to research the historical report written by a First-Century Medical Examiner – sort of CSI Roman Empire. You might know it better as the Gospel of Dr. Luke.
When we meet depends on whether the congregation is doing Second Hour Fellowships… When the Fellowships are on, the Junior Highers remain in the main Sunday morning service, then meet together in the Annex while the adults meet for the Second Hour. When there are breaks between the Second Hour classes, the Jr. High youth have their discussion during the service.
Wednesday Evenings
Following worship in the sanctuary, we meet from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm in the Junior High room. We just finished the Book of Proverbs, so beginning in January 2011 we are focusing on the trustworthiness of God’s Word, and how His truth applies to our lives in the 21′st century.
